Mac OS X to get Windows Phone 7 sync beta this year

Despite what you might think, Microsoft's no stranger to software on a Mac. Its Office suite from the Mac Business Unit is still one of the best-selling pieces of software on OS X. With all the commotion about Windows Phone 7, it's easy to just assume that Microsoft's new and shiny mobile operating system would play nice with Macs, but given the Zune's track record, it certainly wasn't assured.

Our sister site Engadget is reporting, however, that Microsoft is indeed intending to bring Metro-goodness to OS X users, with a beta sync client that will allow "select" content to be loaded onto a Windows Phone "later in 2010." Select content probably means DRM-free MP3s and maybe a bit of PIM data, but don't expect it to be syncing your iTunes rentals -- DRM issues aside, they're not that buddy-buddy.
